C4 Plant

The sugar in the picture represents a C4 plant. A C4 plant uses C4 carbon fixation to convert inorganic compounds to organic ones in photosynthesis. C4 carbon fixation is different from C3 carbon fixation in that it involves more than one step in conversion. CO2 is first used to produce a four-carbon compound. The compound then later releases the CO2 to be used in the Calvin Cycle. A sugar plant is an example of a C4 plant.
